April 17, 2012, marked the 51st anniversary of the Bay of Pigs. Cuban Veterans gather with fellow brother-in-arms to commemorate at the memorial on Calle Ocho. During the memorial ceremony, leaders from the community and certain veterans read the names of the martyrs from that day. After each name was read, the attendees would honor the person by all saying, ''Presente.'' Meaning they are still here. They will be remembered.
These gentlemen offered to sit down with me and tell me about the invasion, leaving Cuba and coming to the United States to escape the Castro regime. The story of the last generation of men who fought against Castro.
After the devastating loss, the men turned to Miami half a century ago, seeking a new life, and a new home away from the one they were forced to flee from. They remember the days of freedom and still hold hope that one day, their beloved country will return to it's former democratic nation.
